The more we talked the more I got the idea to make a "Mrs. Olson's Algebra Class Fanpage" This fanpage would be very similar to the blogs we currently do. They could check daily for information, homework assignments, and reminders. They would also be able to post questions for homework that myself (or a classmate) could answer. I could also attach links to websites that would allow students to do graphing activities or even to the book website that would give them extra practice problems.
My question to those of you that follow my blog is "What do you think? Is this a good idea? Should I talk to my administration before a put it together? Are my students going to want to participate? HELP" (OH yea, could it be part of my Master's Project?)
I would definitely talk to your administration because some districts discourage teachers from using Facebook. If you did make a fan page, I don't think they could see your profile unless you are a friend so that would be a plus. Do you like the idea of Facebook more than blogspot because you think they will check it more?
ReplyDeleteI think it sounds like a great idea. I would definitely check with the admin, but I would pitch as an extra place for students to get help. Some might have an issue because not all students have internet access. Even in our class we have some using the discussion board instead of blogspot. I don't think that we should avoid using technology, simply because not everyone has access. The fan page would not be requirement for the class, so I think it would be a great idea.
